TOP 10 of 2014.

I thought to end the year on a high, I would make a collage of my top 10 films I've watched in 2014.
There are still plenty of films I haven't watched from 2014 so, I have only put in on what I have watched. You cant always trust the trust RT and IMDB team. :P

Please don't be shy to tell me if I'm crazy or slightly correct with my taste in films. :)

WEEK 8 - TURNAROUND

Character turnaround was the final assignment in this amazing little course. We had to choose a character from our past assignments and draw a front and side view of that character as accurate as possible. I choose the pirate because I thought he looked like an interesting character to develop further.

WEEK 7 - ANIMALS

Characterising an animal from reference was this weeks assignment. We had any choice of animal to choose from, so i choose a RHINO.

Final rhino design with references used.

The process I used from rough to final design. The initial sketch, vectorised shapes made in Illustrator and the final textured version painted in Photoshop.

A background added with the 2 characters. Painting backgrounds isn't my strongest asset but, I'm going Rambo (fearless) at the moment in all aspects of design.

This was also requested by a friend of mine (Luis). He wanted to see how I would tackle combining characters with backgrounds. I hope I did well.

Thanks for visiting.

WEEK 5 - STORY through a single image - Part 2

A few weeks ago I did an assignment for CGMA where I had tell a story about something happening on a bench. Although I handed in a final piece, I wasn't happy with the outcome. I did say I would rework it by October. I couldn't until then, so I did it this week. I took the feedback from NW and applied it onto the this final. Im really grateful to Nate for the pointers and happy with this turnout.

TMNT - TINY MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

COWABUNGAAAAA!!!

WEEK 6 - Versa-STYLE

The ability to have versatility in style was this weeks task.

The first dragon is a very simplified, curvy, vibrant  Jay Ward, UPA style.

The second dragon is a Ronald Searle style. A very inky, sharp style with a lot more detail than you would find in a Jay Ward design.

I hope the designs have justified the two artists that inspired me.

Enjoy.

WEEK 5 - STORY through a single image - Part 1

Its been a bad hand in this week. I wasn't over pleased with the turn out. My aim was to have a coloured and textured version of this image & also have a better composition in general. This is definitely on the 'LIST OF THINGS TO FINISH' by October.

More Gumballlll.

I applied for a character designer position on The Amazing World of Gumball (TAWOG) for their new season a while ago. I didn't hear back from CN (which usually means "You didn't get the role". ) but, I still enjoyed completing the assignments they sent me. It was a BIG LEARNING CURVE for me in illustrator. Thanks CN, Love the show.

Gumball & Darwin (FAN-ART)

I found an excuse to play around with Illustrator. The turnout was interesting, these colours have come out a lot brighter than I intended. The actual colours are on my tumblr

WEEK 3 - We love Pirates!

The best way  for me to try new techniques on PS is to apply it on new personal projects. I'm not overly pleased with the final outcome but, I'm going to go back and finish it after I complete the whole CGMA character design course. Assignment DEATH-lines.

WEEK 1 - Shapes.

Its a bit late but, as you can tell from the previous posts, I've enrolled in a character design course to find what out I need to make good designs and get noticed into the amazing world of animation and illustration. So far its been 2 weeks and I've learned a lot of simple and basic methods to make good character designs. I hope you all enjoy what I post up here for the next two months.

WEEK 2 - Crusading.

My start to finish of how I (try) develop characters. This is from my current course at CGMA with Nate Wragg as my mentor (tutor). He's a  really cool dude.

WEEK 2 - Silhouettes of many, many people with weapons.

These are all strong but, in the end I went with the bottom right silhouette. It was a coincidence that the final shape was the last one on the line :}

Challenging PROFILES.

Initially I always struggle with side profiles, but I like challenge of trying to solve the problem and flushing out the character to good standard. I've put together all the images form beginning to end and wrote little notes to give an idea of my thought process. Hope its helpful.
